Medical Minute with Dr. Grisham
When a patient first feels their baby move, is somewhat dependent on which pregnancy it is for them. The medical term for feeling fetal movement for the first time is quickening. Often times in a patient’s first pregnancy, they won’t feel the baby move until 20 weeks. However, in subsequent pregnancies they can feel it as early as 17 to 18 weeks. The early movement is often times described as a fluttering feeling or some women describe as feeling like a gas bubble.
